What does an area where nature, city and well-being meet look like?

11-2025

A clear main theme is often the backbone of the design, to which all solutions are linked. A strong theme helps to make the plan coherent and recognisable.

Identity, nature and well-being were the key themes of our architectural competition proposal last year.

The competition sought a solution that would transform an undeveloped street area, small industrial plots and wasteland into a cohesive, recognisable hub that would be naturally linked to the surrounding residential areas. At the heart of the design are stormwater solutions and biodiversity enhancement. The area should be mixed-use and small-scale, combining housing, services, education and business, and exploring the potential for the retention and re-use of industrial buildings.

The planning area of our competition work is shaped as a long cross-section that interacts with different parts of the city – at the interface between nature and the built environment, and between private and public spaces. The key idea behind the proposal is the seamless integration of different urban languages into a coherent, living dialogue. 🏘️🌱

Water is a pervasive and unifying theme throughout the area, changing its shape and character from one area to the next. 💦

At transport intersections, different areas are linked by permeable surfaces, green spaces and diverse vegetation. The solutions guide traffic to slow down naturally and ensure continuity of green spaces, which is particularly important for small fauna.

The proposal is divided into three phases and areas:

✨ A key recreation area where biodiversity is at the heart of the design
✨ A residential area that respects historical identity and responds to the needs of modern living
✨ A hybrid area that acts as a meeting point between old and new, natural and built, public and private

All regions share a diverse identity, strong natural values and prosperity.

The area’s versatility allows for quick stops for everyday services as well as longer breaks in the middle of nature. It serves primarily the residents and citizens of the area, but also attracts visitors interested in nature and well-being.
