Arctila is a dream

Arctila is a dream realized, born from a passion for architecture and art.

Arctila Architects Ltd was formed from creativity that springs from nature, well-being, and balance. From the idea that quality, precision, and clarity come together in a seamless, mutually supportive, and uplifting union—alongside joy, inspiration, and creativity. Just as personalities, similar at heart but different in color, come together to form a team where the pieces just fit.

We are Tiina and Laura, two building architects with a shared path and common goal.

Arctila is the value choice

Our paths crossed in the early days of our architectural studies, when we were still in school next door. Immediately after the first year of our studies, we also found each other at adjacent desks, as designers in the same architectural firm. Over the years, our team has evolved into a team that works, even with the subtlest of levers.

Year after year, as time went by, new shades of thought were added to the palette – what if we did things more our own way?

What if we were to communicate to others what we are, what we know and what we do best?

What if we acted more purely on the basis of our own values and personal qualities – on the terms and in the ways that work best for us?

Could it be that in this case also;

  • Would motivation, inspiration and efficiency feed each other?
  • Our designs and the quality of our work would improve even more, bringing even better solutions to our customers?
  • Would our enthusiasm and passion for our work lead us to develop our skills and thinking even further – to keep even better track of the changing developments in today’s world?

.

Driven by the profound forces of joy and love, which fuel our most passionate ideas and successful implementations, we decided it was time to establish a foundation rooted in our core values and built upon our strengths.

Arctila is love for nature and well-being, joy and sensory experiences

We share a love of all things aesthetic and functional, artistic and creative, clear, straightforward and high quality.

The cornerstones of our visual vision are carefully finished details, considered sensory worlds and a connection to nature. Nature inspires and empowers us. Nature is the most important source of our well-being.

Wellbeing is one of our core values and is seamlessly linked to inspiration. In the creative sector, inspiration is the lifeblood of insightful building design. We choose to take care of nature with every plan we make.

We have always been fascinated by sensory awareness. Our sensitive senses have also challenged our paths from time to time. Sensory architecture is one of our passions and areas of expertise. Architectural design can balance the sensory landscape of a building with the ability to add interest to a space with details that engage the senses in a new and special way.

Sensory architecture is one of our passions and specialities. We always design buildings and spaces not only for practicality, but also for the senses.

In addition to architecture, we also share a love of art. That’s why we wanted to add it to Arctila. Art is details that complement the built environment. Art is creativity, nuance and life. Art is a sensory surface.

Arctila is a seamless team

As designers and architects, our views meet. Working together has always been easy for us. We share similar values and mindsets and support each other’s work with a trust that has been honed over the years to a seamless level.

Our unified vision also makes our design work smoothly and helps us to refine the idea further and better.

We are meticulous workers. With its characteristic perseverance and precision, Arctila’s plans are always refined down to the last line and detail – within the agreed timeframe, of course.

We also think a lot. We are analytical and philosophical thinkers whose calmness and patience help us to approach situations from many different angles. In Arctila’s plans, the solution is sought until every angle has been explored. We want you to be sure that the end result is the best and the most appropriate solution for the situation.

With our optimal characteristics and the specificity of our collaboration, our design is evolving in an increasingly visionary, nuanced and authentic direction. Towards ever more sustainable and conscious outcomes that we can stand behind with pride, glowing with passion.

We want to be part of creating a new built environment that makes sustainability, quality and well-being an integral part of the architecture of the future. So that history is also preserved as a valuable part of the layers.

We believe that our passion for what we do, our freedom to be genuinely and boldly present, and our desire to learn and develop are the most lasting and sustainable.

The architecture of Arctila is

  • A passion for building design, art and aesthetics
  • A balance where creativity and freedom meet precision, order and rationality
  • Learning new things and developing your skills
  • Problem solving that fascinates and rewards
  • Exploiting our characteristics and strengths

Arctila is balance

Tiina is passionate about spreadsheets, lists and systems. They also make processes easy to handle and understand for our customers and help us to deliver projects on time.

Tiina dreams of a large-scale change of use project of cultural and historical value, where the personality and soul of a valuable building is transferred to the needs of a new era by creating new, fascinating layers of time.

“The balance of old and new creates a completely unique character, with the authenticity and imprint of life. In addition to the layered depth of time, the environmental aspect of renovation is fascinating. When history follows you into the future, you don’t have to spend resources starting from scratch.”

Laura’s social intelligence and gentleness ensure that every client’s dreams are realised and the client feels comfortable and relaxed from the start. Laura’s dream project is a new building that blends seamlessly into nature with its views and materials. The heart of a building is its purpose.

“My dream is to realise the client’s wishes so that the end result is a polished and carefully considered, architectural and well-designed work of art.”

The philosophy of Arctila

ARC

Architectural design is a compromise and balance of many perspectives. Puzzles and problem-solving, combining art, comfort, functionality, order and technical solutions.

Architecture is also about everyday life, needs, desires and well-being. Quality of life and authenticity, encounters, community and personality.

Architecture and the built environment are part of our living space, together with nature. The more seamlessly these parts fit together as a whole, the better the planet and our shared environment will fare.

We believe that the most important skill of an architect is finding a balance between the many different aspects of building.

TILA

For us, a strong team means that the same core generates a strong idea, and then different perspectives complement and develop the idea and generate new ideas. Plans are refined at every stage of the process. Problems are solved and ideas are improved towards a higher quality and more polished end result, viewed from many angles.

The different surface shades also increase the identification surface for different types of customers. At Arctila, the team is always more than the sum of its parts.

Arctila values

At Arctila, we believe that intangible values are the most important part of architectural sustainability and quality. The quality of the built environment plays a big role in building culture and overall well-being. That's why in our own architectural design, we place a special emphasis on the connection of buildings to our overall well-being. The importance of aesthetics, aesthetics, functionality, comfort and connection to nature for well-being are at the heart of architecture - and the mainstays of our own design. We also foster a sense of community and equality through architecture.

While climate issues, the hectic pace of construction and tight budgets are commonplace, it is important to us that architecture is not just a technical solution or a tool to achieve economic and social goals. Architecture is about planning for the future.

Environmental issues such as climate change mitigation and adaptation are an important part of Arctila's planning and operations. Sustainable thinking and respect for nature's values are the pathway to a more sustainable building stock and a future that we are honoured to design. As architectural designers and construction professionals, we take our responsibility as builders of a more sustainable future. Every day, we make choices for a more carbon neutral future. For us, nature is a source of inspiration and a promoter of well-being. The choices we make to ensure that our buildings respect biodiversity and the solutions we choose to integrate them into the natural environment play an important role in our health and quality of life. We are always looking for new ways to support nature. We explore perspectives and design solutions that help our environment recover and support the balance of nature through our choices.

While climate issues, the hectic pace of construction and tight budgets are commonplace, it is important to us that architecture is not just a technical solution or a tool to achieve economic and social goals. Architecture is about planning for the future.

The construction sector is fast-paced and under constant pressure to change. In this sector, maintaining professional skills requires constant learning. Under the pressure of regulations, recommendations and opinions, we have to accept that we never know everything - but we always want to learn more. We get excited easily about new things and learning is important to us. We always do our work with complete professionalism and expertise. However, sometimes we come across questions that have no straightforward answer. Because we enjoy learning new things, the answer is there. Problem-solving is part of the job of an architect, so we don't shy away from complex frameworks.

Natural care and precision, and plans that have been considered from many angles and thought through to the end, are Arctila's trump cards. We strive to ensure that the client always receives plans that are finalised and checked according to our values. We value clarity and structure our projects consistently to make our work easier and more efficient. Clear progressions make our work more rewarding and leave more space and time for creativity and passion. A well-structured and managed project ensures that our clients have a clear picture of the project, are kept up to date with the twists and turns, and can be confident that the project is progressing as planned. Not forgetting, of course, that being planned makes the project more cost-effective, so it saves money. A well thought-out and precise plan reduces extra steps and adjustments, minimising the cost of change and freeing up resources for better use.

We value personality and authenticity. It's important to us that our clients find us approachable and that working with us is relaxed and full of life. At Arctila, we guarantee that every customer is welcomed with dignity, just as they are. This also plays a special role in our work, as authenticity provides a better picture of what is personal for our clients. Especially when designing for personal customers, one of our most important tasks is to make sure that the customer feels heard. The greatest reward of our work is to see in our clients' eyes the same enthusiasm we have for architectural design. Well-being is an important value for us from many perspectives and we want our customer relationships to reflect well-being and convenience. It is of paramount importance to us that our clients feel heard and that plans are tailored to each client's individual needs and wishes. Arctila's customers can rely on us to always do our job wholeheartedly - with professionalism, quality and in a mutually agreed manner.
