What is master planning?

  • A principal designer is a title of responsibility set by the authorities, with precise definitions of their qualifications. Without a principal designer, you cannot apply for a building permit.
  • The architect of the site is often chosen as the main designer, as the architect is the first designer needed for a construction project. The earlier the lead planner gets involved in the project, the more confident they are about the nature of the whole and the twists and turns that lie ahead. In some cases, a structural engineer may also be chosen as the main designer.
  • The main task of the chief designer is to coordinate the drawings of the different design disciplines, such as the architect, structural engineer, HVAC engineer and electrical engineer. A wide range of details and dimensions must be taken into account to avoid conflicts between plans.
  • The lead designer is your main guide throughout the design phase of your project. The lead designer will often also assist with the application for a building permit and the required annexes to the building permit.
  • During construction, the principal designer works together with the foreman in charge of the site. The foreman is responsible for the site and its smooth progress, and the chief designer ensures that the plans are kept up to date in changing situations.

Architectural design steps – how to plan with an architect

  • A full discussion of your wishes and needs and the signing of planning agreements
  • Sketch design
  • Sketch design, the first outline of the future entity
  • Main drawings for the building permit.
  • Together, we discuss the ideas raised by the draft plan and go through the refinements and changes we want to make to the draft plan.
  • Once the sketch plan is ready, we will use it to draw up the main drawings for the building permit.
  • After the main drawings, a working drawing design is made, where the plans are refined to a detailed level for construction.
